Mahama Has Nothing to offer Ghanaians, Please Give me 4More- Nana Akuffo Addo

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has urged Ghanaians to be wary of the promises being made by the presidential candidate of the NDC, John Mahama, in the run-up to the December 2020 polls, which is some two weeks away.

Addressing business owners at Kokompe, in the Ablekuma North constituency, on Tuesday, 24th November 2020, on the first day of his 3-day tour of the Greater Accra Region, President Akufo-Addo stated that record in office of the former President in office is nothing to write home about, hence his defeat in 2016.

Having presided over the work economic statistics in recent history, the President wondered what John Mahama’s motivation was for seeking the office of President of the Republic of Ghana.

“I know of someone going about on a promising spree, that if he comes, he would do this and that, but the fact of the matter is he has been in power before, and what actually did he achieve? Nothing”, he said.

President Akufo-Addo continued, “We have experienced his stewardship before, and it didn’t meet the expectations of Ghanaians. So, he (Mahama) should stop lying to Ghanaians, for us to continue with our developmental agenda for the country!”

To the business owners, artisans, traders of Kokompe, the President recounted the promises he made to the Ghanaian people, and offered an update on the status of these pledged.

“I have come, this morning, to ask you if I have reneged on my promises to you, if I have disappointed you, if I came to lie to you. Since I have fulfilled most of my pledges to you, that means I was honest with you. For these reasons, you know I have lived up to expectations, so give me four more years to serve you better and continue my work,” he added.

Touching on the Coronavirus Alleviation Programme Business Development Support, the President acknowledged that not all who applied have been successful, but assured that “those who didn’t benefit from the financial support will be assisted when I am retained in office.”

In addition to Kaneshie Market, the President visited Kaneshie Market, Abeka Market, Santa Maria, Ofankor, Amasaman, Kotoku and Oduman, where he stressed that “the New Patriotic Party has got the blueprint for the development of Ghana, and it is going to be concretized in Akufo-Addo’s second time as President of the Republic. That is the programme ahead of us and for our country.”

I never interfered with your work – Akufo-Addo to Amidu

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has vehemently denied interfering with the work of the Special Prosecutor Mr Martin Amidu .
Mr Amidu resigned from his post on Monday, November 16 citing interference by the President as one of the reasons.

He said in his letter to the president that “It is essential for me to state for the purpose of the records, and contrary to public perceptions, that my appointment letter was received on 5th February 2020 (almost two (2)-years after my appointment).

“The copy addressees made no efforts to honour any of the conditions of appointment in terms of emoluments and benefits of the appointment ever since my warrant of appointment was issued on 23rd February 2018 to the date of my letter of resignation. The Deputy Special Prosecutor has also not been paid any emoluments since her appointment, and there is the need to redress that situation for her now that I am out of the way.

“The events of 12th November 2020 removed the only protection I had from the threats and plans directed at me for undertaking the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions anti-corruption assessment report and dictates that I resign as the Special Prosecutor immediately.

“I should not ordinarily be announcing my resignation to the public myself but the traumatic experience I went through from 20th October 2020 to 2nd November 2020 when I conveyed in a thirteen (13) page letter the conclusions and observations on the analysis of the risk of corruption and anti-corruption assessment on the Report On Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions and Other Matters Related Thereto to the President as Chairman of the National Security Council caution against not bringing my resignation as the Special Prosecutor with immediate to the notice of the Ghanaian public and the world.

My position as the Special Prosecutor has consequently become clearly untenable.”

But Mr Akufo-Addo in a statement reacting to these allegations said “Your accusation of interference with your functions simply on account of the meeting the president held with you is perplexing.

“In exercise of what you considered to be your powers under Act 959, you had voluntarily proceeded to produce the Agyapa Report.

“The president had no hand in your work. Without prompting from any quarter within the Executive., you delivered a letter purporting to be a copy of your report to the president.

  • President Denies Interfering With Amidu’s Job

President Denies Interfering With Amidu’s Job

President Nana Akufo-Addo has dismissed claims by the immediate-past Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, that he interferes with his investigative work.

Mr Amidu, it would be recalled, on Monday, November 16, 2020, tendered in his resignation in a letter addressed to Mr Akufo-Addo.

In the letter, Mr Amidu, among other things, accused the President of interfering with investigation works into alleged corruption cases.

He mentioned for instance that the President sought to interfere with his corruption risk investigation into the controversial Agyapa Royalties deal.

But the President, through his Secretary, Nana Bediatuo Asante, has responded to each of the claims made against him by the Mr Amidu.

In a letter addressed to Mr Amidu and signed by Mr Asante, the President made it clear that throughout the tenure of Mr Amidu, he (Mr Akufo-Addo) nor any member of his government interfered or sought to interfere with his work.

According to the Presidency, in Mr Amidu’s letter to the President dated October 16, 2020, he stated, in part in relation to the novel nature of the report on the analysis of the risk of corruption and anti-corruption assessment of the gold royalties monetization transaction that “this has been made possible by the courage and commitment of H.E. the President of Ghana on redeeming the promise he made to Ghanaians when he was a Presidential candidate of a political party to establish an independent anti-corruption statutory entity to male meaningful any real commitment to prevent and fight corruption.

The Presidency stated that on August 3, 2020, Mr Amidu in a letter to the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, noted that “I have remained in this Office this long out of personal respect for the President’s shared commitment with me to fight corruption.”

Thus, the Presidency says it found it surprising that Mr Amidu will come out to question the commitment of President Akufo-Addo as far as the fight against corruption is concerned and even go on to accuse him (Akufo-Addo) of interfering with investigative works into alleged corruption cases.

The Presidency could not also understand why even before the President had been given the opportunity to reacts to the contents of Mr Amidu’s four-page letter, it had been circulated into the public domain prior to receipt by Mr Akufo-Addo.

President Akufo-Addo inaugurate the Passport Head Office in Accra. Looking on are Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey (left) and Nii Okei Kinka Dowuona VI (2nd left), Osu Mantse

President Akufo-Addo, on Friday, inaugurated a new Passport Head Office at Ridge in Accra to provide improved services in the acquisition and issuance of passports.

The new head office, which is a three level purpose-built edifice, comes with ancillary facilities such as meeting room, cafeteria for staff, and a well-structured records/ archival room among others.

The office is the culmination of positive interventions and reforms undertaken by the government to transform the operations of passport administration in the country.

Commissioning the building, President Akufo-Addo said the Passport Office had been struggling for many years to get an appropriate accommodation “and we can all agree that that appropriate accommodation had been obtained.”

He commended the Foreign Ministry under Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey for spearheading the transformation of passport administration and how she had distinguished herself as the front-liner in Ghana’s diplomacy.

“…We now have a process for obtaining passport that can be done in an objective and transparent manner.”

The President urged management and staff of the office to ensure that the place was well maintained and kept “and the purpose of efficient administration of the passport regime of the country” was achieved.

Ms. Botchwey, MP, said for nearly four years, her office had successfully implemented the online passport application system, which had phased out the manual application.

These interventions, she said, had eliminated the difficulties associated with the acquisition of passports, and had improved the turnout time for delivery.
Acquisition of passports has been improved tremendously with the establishment of passport application centres in Kumasi, Tamale, Ho, Takoradi, Koforidua, Tema and Sunyani, as well as PACS in Accra and Kumasi to expedite services.

The Foreign Minister said they were in the process of giving facelifts to all existing regional PACS to improve service delivery; and said they would soon commission a new PACS in Cape Coast, as well as a new premium centre in Tamale.

He stated that, the results are in there, and we have the worse result in our history that is why WAEC is holding on unto it. They can’t release it because they know the result is bad, and they know that if they release the result, Akufo Addo is done.

According to him, Akufo Addo is holding on unto the free SHS, so if the result is released, it will show how bad he has performed under the free SHS. He claimed that, the teachers and WAEC knows how bad the children were, so why are they holding on to the result.

He claimed, he has people working at the WAEC office and they are saying that, Akufo Addo said they should on to the result.
He said WAEC should have released the WASSCE result two weeks ago, so why are the result not released yet? He further stated that, WAEC cannot hold on to the result until January after the elections to favor Akufo Addo, because they already know that 80% of the children have failed.

She noted that President Akufo-Addo and the ruling NPP which is a resemblance of the Republican party should brace themselves for the same big surprise come December 7.

According to her, the President and the NPP government should start preparing their handing over notes.

She cited the Agyapa deal which has been revealed by the Special Prosecutor in its report that it was distraught with nepotism and did not pass through authentic legal requirements— is one of the reasons why Ghanaians must vote Akufo-Addo for John Dramani Mahama to win and prosecute those robbing Ghanaians.

“As it stands now the majority of Ghanaians are waiting patiently to vote out the Akufo-Addo’s family and friends government on December 7 just like the Americans have done to Donald Trump,” she emphasised.
