Chelsea have seen an £85m ($118m) bid, that included Marcos Alonso heading in the opposite direction, rejected by Inter for striker Romelu Lukaku, Goal can confirm.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to add a world-class forward to his attack as the Blues look to challenge for the Premier League title in the 2021-22 campaign.

Chelsea were hopeful that they could capitalise on Inter’s financial difficulties by making a big offer for Lukaku, although the Nerazzurri have thus far proved resistant.

Lukaku said last week that he is gearing up for the new season with the Italian champions after he returned to training, suggesting he wants to stay.

Meanwhile, Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has insisted that the forward will not be allowed to leave any time soon, saying: “Lukaku is not for sale. Lukaku is an important piece on the chessboard available to Simone Inzaghi.”

The Stamford Bridge side are in the hunt for a new striker, having seen Olivier Giroud leave this summer.

Chelsea already have Erling Haaland and Harry Kane on their list of targets, but Borussia Dortmund are not willing to sell the former during this transfer window and Tottenham are not letting their star man join their London rivals.

Lukaku, 28, has blossomed into one of the world’s top strikers in recent years.

He scored 24 goals and registered 11 assists in Serie A last season as the Nerazzurri secured the league title.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo scored more goals in the Italian top-flight in 2020-21.

Lukaku joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in 2011 but was unable to secure a place in the first team.

He ended up joining West Brom on loan for a year in 2012 and then went to Everton a year later.

Lukaku then joined the Toffees on a permanent deal, leaving Chelsea with just 15 competitive appearances to his name and no goals.

The Blues are already trying to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla ahead of the new season.

They have been offering several players to the Spanish side in exchange for the defender.

Kurt Zouma, Emerson Palmieri and Kenedy are among the names the Premier League side have floated by Sevilla.

They are trying to get rid of Zouma first to make room in the squad for Kounde, with West Ham also in talks to sign the French centre-back.

NEVER WANTED CHELSEA TO BECOME “AN ACADEMY CLUB” FRANK LAMPARD ADMITS
Chelsea’s manager, Frank Lampard admits he never wanted wanted Chelsea to become “an academy club” due to spending the lavish spree of money which amounted to €200million.

Lampard was extensively ascribed to handing Chelsea best young talent an opportunity last season ,with players such as Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount blooming after being given regular minutes at Stamford Bridge , Although it’s still seen if the club’s academy youngsters continue that development amid increase competition for a first team place.

Chelsea have always been impeach of boarding young talent without a clear alley to the first team and Lampard’s policy was a welcome change ,now, the blues boss insist he “never wanted “ to become an academy club and says the focus should be on whether his side can compete for silverware on his side.

According to Frank Lampard, he stated he never wanted that “I love the nurturing last year but I never wanted us to become an academy club”and this was said to sky sports. “That story is great for five minutes and those debuts when you had them out are really nice. But then it moves very quickly to those asking if you can win games now .

“When you see the injection of players and what they can bring – they have all brought personality with them already – that should bring a level of competition that lifts the squad to new levels.

“My feeling and my senses suggest the players are feeling that, but we have to show that on the pitch, and it is my job to manage that and take us forward.

“Last year we spoke a lot about the transfer ban, and it was very relevant. To come fourth last year was a big achievement and it certainly felt that way with the competition around us. That’s done now, and now we are looking at whether we can get better, whether we can improve as a club?

“I’m a Chelsea fan and any fan should get excited about the type of players we have brought in. It’s something we had a long look at last year. The ban allowed us to look at areas we wanted to improve, the profile, type and age of player we wanted to improve us in the long term.

“It feels good because it has been work, it’s what you set out to do. Recruitment is a huge part of trying to be a club that is successful at the top of the Premier League.

“Liverpool and Manchester City are big examples of that, they have got big coaches and great players they have brought in at the right time. We’ve made positive moves, now it comes down to work and whether we can show it on the pitch.”

Chelsea Chief Confirms Frank Lampard transfer Plans after Kai Havertz announcement

Chelsea technical director Petr Cech has confirmed that Frank Lampard will continue to make signings after Kai Havertz becomes the sixth new arrival at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Blues have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to purchase the versatile midfielder for around £80million.

That will take Chelsea’s spending over the £200m mark and half of their starting XI on the opening day of the season could be making their debuts.

Attackers Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner were captured before the transfer window even opened.

Defenders Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr all put pen to paper on their deals last week – although the latter will be sent out on loan for the upcoming campaign.

Havertz will become the sixth new arrival in west London but Lampard has no plans to stop his spending there.

Kepa Arrizabala’s turbulent form over the past two years has raised major questions over his long-term future.

Cech explained that the club still have confidence in the 25-year-old shot stopper but also admitted a new No 1 could be brought in.

“Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable,” Cech told Sport.cz.

“But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful.

“Additions will be made to the squad, perhaps even in goal, and this is what is being discussed now.

“But nobody is giving up on Kepa and we all hope he has a great future.”

The transfer window has been extended until October 5 this year and Cech will be working hard behind the scenes to get more deals over the line.

“The issue of reinforcements is now very much alive,” the ex-goalkeeper added.

“The transfer window is until the end of October this year so there will be a lot of changes after the league begins.

“And the question is how much the coronavirus pandemic will affect everything.”

Cech was instrumental in convincing Werner and Havertz that their futures lie with Chelsea.

The technical director took secret trips to Germany to convince the pair to complete their moves.
