The “Freed” Hawa Koomson Will be Prosecuted When We Gain Power – NDC Vowes

The main opposition NDC has vowed to prosecute Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hawa Koomson should the NDC return to power by 2025.

A statement issued by the National Youth Organiser of the party, George Opare Addo threatened to reopen her case, investigate her and let her face the full rigours of the law.

This comes after the Minister’s revelation in a recent interview that the criminal case against her for firing, gunshots in a public place without lawful authority has allegedly been dropped by the Police CID for want of evidence.

But the NDC youth wing contends the Minister cannot escape the law under the next NDC government.

“Since the acting IGP has decided to walk the Police administration down the destructive and despicable petty politicking path as his predecessor, the NDC Youth Wing calls on all Ghanaians to brace themselves for reality that the State cannot guarantee their safety. We, therefore, charge Ghanaians to fiercely protect and defend themselves when dealing with any element associated with the Addo/Bawumia government.

Hawa Koomson “We also want to assure all Ghanaians that crime has no expiration date and come 2025 when the new NDC takes over the governance of our beloved country all those committing crimes against innocent Ghanaians will be properly investigated and everyone found culpable will be prosecuted.”

The Minister for Fisheries Mavis Hawa Koomson during her vetting reiterated that the gun she used in the infamous gun shooting incident at Kasoa during the voter’s registration exercise was registered.

She claimed although her action on that day was regrettable, she fired the warning shot in defence after feeling threatened while touring registration centres at Kasoa.

“I’d want to put on record that the incident didn’t happen at the polling centre. It happened about 150 meters from the polling centre but I still regret it. I wish it never happened in our political history,”

  • I understand why Hawa Koomson will be rejected but not Oppong Nkrumah- law Professor, Kwaku Azar

I understand why Hawa Koomson will be rejected but not Oppong Nkrumah- law Professor, Kwaku Azar

Ghanaian- US based law professor and legal luminary, Stephen Kwaku Asare, popularly known as Kwaku Azar has reacted to the rejection of Minister Designate for Information, honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah by the Appointments Committee.

Minority MPS of the 8th Parliament’s Appointments Committee had earlier rejected Ministers Designate for Information, Fisheries and Aquaculture and Food and agriculture.

They are Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Mavis Hawa Koomson and Owusu Akoto Afriyie, respectively.

Reacting in a social media post, the professor stated that while he understands why the Committee will reject Hawa Koomson, he doesn’t understand why Oppong Nkrumah will be rejected.

Kwaku Azar in his post argued and described the minister Designate for Information as eminently qualified for his position.

According to him, it cannot be reasonably argued that the member of parliament is reasonable for the actions taken by the country’s Supreme Court.

The law professor in his post hoped that the plenary will affirm the Minister Designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hawa Koomson and reverse that of the Information minister Designate.

” While I understand why the Appointment Committee will reject my auntie, Hawa Koomson, I must say I am ad idem with the committee on my brother Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Kojo is eminently qualified for the position and cannot be reasonably argued that he is responsible for actions taken by the Supreme Court.

I hope the plenary will affirm Hawa and reverse Kojo” Part of Prof. Azar’s post read.
