    Government’s economic policy for the year 2021 was approved by Parliament last Friday amidst strong rejection from the minority. Today March 21, 2021, the Ministry of information led by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah held a press briefing on the happenings in the country and a summary of the briefing reads;

    1. The executive arm of government expresses it’s sincere gratitude to the legislative arm of government for approving the 2021 economic policy statement. The budget is expected to introduce an economic recovery program, build the country’s light manufacturing industry, develop engineering machine tools in agriculture, health and technology, invest in housing and construction, creating jobs and reviewing government’s flagship programs.

    2. Parliament is expected to delve into the budget statement of ministries and relevant government institutions and pass it as an appropriate bill by 1st April for government machinery to run.

    3. The Covid-19 levy introduced is not for the payment of free water and electricity as it is being reported in the media. Government has only spent 1.7 billion on Covid-19 not 19 billion as reported in some sections of the media.

    He futher said, The media should highlight the correct position of government in their reportage.

    4. Government is keen on breaking the eight year cycle of governance by working to restore the confidence of the Ghanaian people and creating a Ghana for all.

    5. Covid-19 cases have dropped from 8000 to 3500 as at 11:30 am today even though the rate of testing has declined.

    6. Testing at the Airport is still on as with active cases of 1306 and 220 cases in schools nationwide.

    7. Government’s Covid-19 vaccination is still underway and 468, 581 people vaccinated nationwide. Greater Accra has the highest number of people who have taken the vaccine.

    8. Fever, Headache, Pain at injection part and body pains are reported side effects of the AstraZaneca vaccine. No clotting events have been detected after the FDA conducted a robust adverse test.

    9. 20 million Ghanaians to be vaccinated by October and every district will have two vaccination centers. 42 million vaccines needed by government to vaccinate the larger populace.

    10. MTN as part of it’s cooperate social responsibility is expected to procure vaccines for Africa and Ghana will have 116, 000 doses of vaccine.

    I understand why Hawa Koomson will be rejected but not Oppong Nkrumah- law Professor, Kwaku Azar

    Ghanaian- US based law professor and legal luminary, Stephen Kwaku Asare, popularly known as Kwaku Azar has reacted to the rejection of Minister Designate for Information, honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah by the Appointments Committee.

    Minority MPS of the 8th Parliament’s Appointments Committee had earlier rejected Ministers Designate for Information, Fisheries and Aquaculture and Food and agriculture.

    They are Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Mavis Hawa Koomson and Owusu Akoto Afriyie, respectively.

    Reacting in a social media post, the professor stated that while he understands why the Committee will reject Hawa Koomson, he doesn’t understand why Oppong Nkrumah will be rejected.

    Kwaku Azar in his post argued and described the minister Designate for Information as eminently qualified for his position.

    According to him, it cannot be reasonably argued that the member of parliament is reasonable for the actions taken by the country’s Supreme Court.

    The law professor in his post hoped that the plenary will affirm the Minister Designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hawa Koomson and reverse that of the Information minister Designate.

    ” While I understand why the Appointment Committee will reject my auntie, Hawa Koomson, I must say I am ad idem with the committee on my brother Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

    Kojo is eminently qualified for the position and cannot be reasonably argued that he is responsible for actions taken by the Supreme Court.

    I hope the plenary will affirm Hawa and reverse Kojo” Part of Prof. Azar’s post read.

    I will take the first shot of the COVID-19 Vaccine- Minister Designate for Information

    Today the ministry of health in collaboration with the ministry of information and other foreign partners held a press conference. It was to update the country on COVID-19 vaccine deployment into the country.

    There have been a lot of misconceptions about the COVID-19 vaccine. Some are of the believe that the vaccine is a poison that the whites wants to use to wipe off the blacks from the earth. Those who are of spiritual background too think that this vaccine is a form of Antichrist.Some even think the vaccine is the virus itself.

    At the event the speakers assured Ghanaians that the vaccine is safe and also before it will be given to Ghanaians the food and drugs board will have to test it to see its efficacy and safety.

    The Minister Designate of information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that some executive members are willing to take the first shot of the vaccine to prove that it is safe. He said he himself particular will definitely receive the first shot of the vaccine live on Television.
