Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Names NDC Kingpins Behind Recent Fake News

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being the architects of fake news and videos against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A recent video making the rounds on social media which some political pundits have described as fake, indicates that President Akufo-Addo reportedly took an amount of $40,000 as a bribe.

A second video also being circulated on social media however shows something different.

According to the Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako, that is the original and true reflection of what actually happened in 2016.

Prior to this, there have been other fake news and videos all against the NPP and according to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayiribi, were all orchestrated by the NDC.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, he mentioned some names of NDC bigwigs who are allegedly behind such acts.

  • ‘We Have Identified Sources of Funding to Western Togoland Secessionists’ – Oppong Nkrumah

‘We Have Identified Sources of Funding to Western Togoland Secessionists’ – Oppong Nkrumah

Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said government and security agencies have identified the sources of funding and key actors behind the Western Togoland secessionist group.

In view of that, he said, the security agencies had taken stringent measures to deal with it decisively and publish names of key actors on the watch list in the coming days, in order to forestall any future occurrence.

He said the government considered the action by the group as purely criminal and infringement of the country’s laws and, would, therefore, prosecute them accordingly.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah announced this at a news conference in Accra on Sunday, to provide update on the Homeland Study Group Foundation’s attack and road blockade of some major entry and exit points to the Volta Region, in the early hours of Friday, September 25.

The Minister refuted claims that the security agencies were not proactive to gather security intelligence about the group’s intended action, saying the security agencies “did well by securing critical state installations such as Akosombo and Akuse dams, Adomi Bridge and Ho Central Market which the group had targeted to blast.

The secessionist group attacked two police stations at Aveyime and Mepe, and seized 10 AK47 assault rifles after breaking into the police armoury.

They ransacked the police stations, released inmates in custody, physically assaulted and injured police officers. The group, subsequently, blocked major roads to the Region and burnt car tyres.

However, a joint police/military enforcement team rescued the police officers who were held hostage.

The security agencies have so far arrested 31 members of the secessionist group, airlifted to Accra and in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service were being interrogated.

One person died and several others injured during the exchange of fire between the security agencies and the secessionist group.

The Minister acknowledged the condemnation of the group’s action by the Council of State, National House of Chiefs and a section of the public and urged all well-meaning Ghanaians to rally behind the state in solidarity to prevent the whipping up of political or ethnic sentiments.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said the security agencies would prefer appropriate charges against them and arraign them before court for prosecution.

He also rubbished claims that the government was creating confusion in the opposition NDC party’s “stronghold” ahead of the December 7 Election and used it as the basis to deploy soldiers to the place to intimidate voters.

The Homeland Study Group Foundation in May 2019 declared independence for Western Togoland, saying that they were no more part of Ghana.

This led to the arrest of a 78-year old Charles Kormi Kudzordzi, aka “Papavi”, the Leader of the group and some other members of the group.

Some were later released, while others faced prosecution in different regions.

  • “I Dislike Kojo Oppong Nkrumah. Should I See Him, I’ll Pass By” – A Plus Openly Confesses

“I Dislike Kojo Oppong Nkrumah. Should I See Him, I’ll Pass By” – A Plus Openly Confesses

Musician turned politician, Kwame Obeng Asare aka A Plus has publicly confessed his dislike for Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who is the Information Minister and Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayeribi.

In an interview with Kofi TV, A Plus said he will not tolerate the presence of the minister if he should meet him. According to him, his dislike for Kojo Opppong Nkrumah will highly influence his decision to ignore the exchange of pleasantries.

“Kojo Oppong Nkrumah used to be my friend; now, I don’t like him. I won’t lie and say we’re in a good relationship. I don’t like him. If I see him, I’ll pass; but if he greets me, I’ll respond. We must accord people respect,” he noted in the interview.

In detailing the cause for this stance, A Plus said Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, when he was a journalist in the lead up to the 2016 elections labelled the candidature and the fight against corruption by Akufo-Addo as unfit and unpurposeful.

Therefore, A Plus believes Mr Oppong Nkrumah should not be tolerated around the party especially when his role to ensure the victory of the party in 2016 was minimal and inconsequential.

“In 2016, I dedicated my time and risked my life for him [Oppong Nkrumah]. I went to Ofoase Ayirebi to help him win the parliamentary elections. I did it for free, I just wanted to help him to win.

“So when you win and go for a radio interview on corruption and I’m mentioned that I have criticized the government about its way of fighting corruption and you create an impression that ‘A Plus is not a serious guy, he has fallen out with the government so no one sho

A Plus angrily retorted that the fact that Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is a minister does not mean they are ‘co-equals.’

“I’m not your co-equal. You are a government appointee, I run my own business. I’m not an appointee. The government tasked me but revoked it after three months thinking I’ll die as a result. I have survived it. Out of my free will, I supported your campaign and it meant I meant well for you. So if you become a minister and think you have power, don’t think you can use that power to disrespect people who genuinely supported you.”

A Plus has always been on the neck of the Information Minister since he was appointed. His social media posts do not cease to tag the young politician as corrupt, ungrateful and sycophant. He has launched several attacks against Kojo Oppong Nkrumah which the minister is yet to react or respond to.

However, many sympathizers of the NPP believe all the shenanigans being exhibited by A Plus is because he feels he has been sidelined by the government and as a result of the abundance of bitterness that has piled in his heart, decided to attack appointees of the government who are clean and blameless.
