2 Arrested For Reporting To Polling Station Drunk

The police have arrested two voters for reporting at their polling stations drunk at Abetifi in the Eastern Region.

According to the police, their presence at the polling station will only cause “confusion” as they were not in “sound mind”

Speaking to the Adom News’ Correspondent, the District Police Commander, DSP Yaw Dankwa-Agyekum said they will be given food and water at the police station to ensure they are sober to enable them to partake in the electoral process

“It is just 12 noon, and they were in a drunken stupor, so what at all are they going to do? All they will do is cause confusion, so we have taken them to the police station, when they sober up we will give them food and water and allow them to go, hopefully, the electioneering process will be over by then,” he said.

DSP Yaw Dankwa-Agyekum also urged Ghanaians to abide rules and regulations governing the Electoral Commission.

  • Election 2020: NDC’s claim to have won parliamentary majority false – Nkrumah

Election 2020: NDC’s claim to have won parliamentary majority false – Nkrumah

The government has described as “false” claims by the main opposition John Dramani Mahama, National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flag bearer John Dramani Mahama that they have won majority of parliamentary seats in the just ended December 7 polls.

According to the government,John Dramani Mahama

Addressing the media on Tuesday evening [8 Dec 2020], the presidential candidate of the NDC, Mr Mahama said the NDC’s analysis of the results show that the biggest opposition party has won the majority of seats in Parliament.

“We thank the electorate for giving us a working majority in parliament; 140 seats in Parliament, which is a majority and no attempt should be made to subvert that.

“I’ve looked at the results we’ve collated so far and I’m excited, I’m happy with the results; we won in 10 regions out of 16 and the Ghanaian people have expressed confidence in us,” Mr Mahama said.

But reacting to this at a press conference few hours later, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said Mr Mahama’s claim is false.

Mr Nkrumah said: “For the first time, a candidate, a presidential candidate is claiming his party has secured parliamentary majority.

“That claim by the candidate to have won a parliamentary majority is false.

“Anybody who has followed Ghana’s electoral process knows that we have returning officers at the 275 constituencies that is different from the returning officer for the presidential elections.

“These returning officers collate the results and make a formal declaration of who has won the constituency.

“The Ghanaian media is littered across all 275 constituencies and their collation centers. You are the ones reporting this election. If indeed anybody has won 140 in Parliament by now you will know.

“So the claim by Mr Mahama that his party has won parliamentary majority is false…so it is important that at this point in time that claim be shot down so that the Ghanaian public, some of whom will be going to bed, the international community listening doesn’t get that idea that Mr Mahama’s party have won parliamentary majority.”

John Mahama Vote In Bole Bamboi. There was near confusion at the polling center in the Bole Bamboi constituency where the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama voted on Monday, December 7.

The mix-up occurred after one of the security guards of Mr. Mahama who had registered in the same polling center with him had his name missing from the register leading to his inability to vote.

Mr. Mahama told journalists that these were some of the issues the NDC raised against the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the polls but nothing was done about it.

“One of my security guards, I registered here with him and during the exhibition, we checked his name.

“We got here today and his name is not there and so I don’t know if it is a generalized problem but it is too early to make an assessment. We are waiting to find out what the presiding officer will say.

“We hope that they can rectify this. These are some of the little things that we kept complaining about,” Mr. Mahama said.

  • Akufo-Addo Breaks Silence on US$40,000 Bribery Scandal

Akufo-Addo Breaks Silence on US$40,000 Bribery Scandal

President Akufo-Addo has slammed former President John Dramani Mahama , describing him as a man who is empty of vision, bankrupt of ideas, and a liar.

He noted that the former president has resorted to fabrications, distortions because his campaign has collapsed in confusion.

The President said the NDC candidate has realized he will not win the elections hence has adopted an approach to throw mud at him.

Addressing a rally at Jamestown in the Odododiodoo constituency today, Saturday, December 5, 2020, he said Mr. Mahama is going on his campaign peddling lies and deceiving Ghanaians with unrealistic promises when his previous record is nothing to write home about.

“The NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama , bereft of record, empty of vision, bankrupt of ideas whose campaign has collapsed in confusion, in deceit, in lies and outright fabrication who today, hanging his political career which is in tatters on fabricated and doctored tape…it will not happen. The Ghanaian people are not ready to go on that line.”
His reaction comes after the NDC at an emergency press conference dubbed “The Mother of All Corruption” released a video alleging that President Akufo-Addo had received a $40,000 bribe from the Director of Urban Road in order not to fire him.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah some few days ago slammed the NDC for doctoring a video of a 2016 campaign donation to then-candidate Akufo-Addo to falsely accuse him of bribery.

He noted that the NDC Presidential Candidate, John Mahama was clutching at straws to resuscitate his collapsed campaign such as disseminating fake news by superimposing the original video with new voices to create a false impression that President Akufo-Addo is receiving a bribe.

“Whilst we are not surprised by the new low by the opposition candidate and his party, we remind Ghanaians that they should expect more of such falsehoods and fabrications in the days leading up to the election.

“It has become clear that candidate Mahama’s failed campaign now sees fake news and fabrications, as well as an amendment of their earlier promises as the only hope to salvage what is going to be another decisive victory for President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party,” he stated.

“The people of Ghana are discerning and will not be swayed by obvious fabrications designed by persons who always seek to bring the name of the Republic into disrepute and sully its image amongst the comity of nations.”
