President Nana Addo Condemns Acts By Military Men On Civilian

Nana Akufo Addo has condemned the viral videos of the so-called police and soldiers brutalities aimed at civilians to enforce the lockdown rule. According to him, the videos are fake and the government will not sit down for the name of the armed forces to be disrespected.

    President Nana Addo

Speaking at his 5th presidential Covid-19 speech televised live on Sunday, the President said those who are behind this bad attitude are unpatriotic.

“I am extremely disturbed by the actions of a few, unpatriotic persons, who are deliberately passing off and circulating old videos of alleged brutality by members of the security agencies, largely of foreign origin, and presenting them as though they were new incidents by Ghanaian security personnel, which have occurred during the course of this past week. It is sad, it is unfortunate, and it must end.”

    President Nana Addo

“We should all be in this fight together, and there is nothing to be gained with widespread fabrication and distribution of such videos, whose sole aim is to create discontent and undermine the trust of the population in the men and women of our security services. Who gains from such conduct? Nobody in their right senses! The law enforcement agencies are determined to locate the originators of these anti-social acts.”

While condemning the use of excessive force, President Akufo-Addo said the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces had taken steps to investigate such incidents.

“They have given me the assurance that those found culpable will be sanctioned. The alleged wrongdoers have been withdrawn from the ongoing exercise.”

  • A STAFF TESTED POSITIVE COVID-19 AT DOME KWABENYA

A STAFF TESTED POSITIVE AT A FILLING STATION AT DOME KWABENYA

    Adhering strictly to health
protocols and safety tips during this time of COVID-19 outbreak are crucial to prevent a faster spread of the virus and slow the rate of infection.

However, my attention has been drawn to a COVID-19 case in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency which raises serious health concerns to the constituents. The case in question refers to a Filling Station in the constituency which has been closed down because a staff tested positive for COVID-19.

Inasmuch as I will commend the local health officials for closing down the Fuel Station, it is quite worrying to allow the entire staff to go home without any form of quarantine or isolation.

    A STAFF TESTED POSITIVE COVID-19

Verified information also shows that they were recalled for their samples to be taken when their colleague tested positive and was asked to return home.

This is disturbing and puts the entire constituency in particular, and Ghanaians in general, at risk in times like this. This raises a few questions:

Why were the filling station staff not quarantined and were asked to go home?

Could the staff who tested positive have come into any form of contact with a colleague?

What form of the psychological process have they taken the staff through to allay their fears?

    A STAFF TESTED POSITIVE COVID-19

In the event one or two of the staff may have come into contact with their colleague who tested positive, what measures have been put in place to ensure that they also do not come into contact with family members at home?

I want to call on the health authorities in the constituency to raise the bar when it comes to handling issues surrounding COVID-19 because the slightest form of negligence and oversight will put the entire nation at risk. Our health is our wealth and we need to be on the alert to protect everyone.

  • If Government Wants The Lockdown To Be Effective, He Should Give Everyone Momo- Ian Suggests

If Government Wants The Lockdown To Be Effective, He Should Give Everyone Momo- Ian Suggests

Ghanaian actor and tourism ambassador Ian Wordi has suggestion that the two-weeks lockdown declared by the Government of Ghana as part of it’s fight against Coronavirus will only be effective if the right thing is not done.

Recall that, the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, in a national address delivered on Friday, March 27, 2020, declared a partial lockdown in Accra and Kumasi effective on Monday 30th March 2020.

But Ian Wordi, who is currently trapped in Nigeria due to the border closure, believes many lives will be affected if the President doesn’t take the appropriate measures.

He made this statement during a live Instagram post.

According to the ‘Year of Return, Ghana 2019’ ambassador, the lockdown will only be effective if the government sends mobile money transfer to citizens to feed during this period.

“I think the government shouldn’t lockdown the country without providing measures to feed the people,” he said. “Ghana is a country where a few percentages live on the street and in slums. A lockdown will never be possible until there are measures put in place. For instances, everyone should be given an amount of money via their mobile money accounts so that they can pay for things and take care of themselves before the lockdown. Because in Ghana, a lot of us do hand-to-mouth so if they lockdown, how are they going to get money to buy food?” he stated.

He admitted that the lockdown is necessary, however, he believes people will die if the measures he suggested are not put in place before the lockdown comes into full effect.

“Lockdown is needed but I don’t think it would be effective. People will die. The lockdown won’t work. We have people on the street who depend on the street to make money. Take places like Nima and Maamobi, who can force them to stay indoors? It can work in Trasaco and East Legon. I don’t think it will work in certain areas.”
