Residents raise alarm over gallamsey activities destroying their water bodies, call for immediate intervention:
Residents of Anumso, Ofoase, Ohwimase, Achiase, and its environs have complained bitterly over how illegal mining activities are causing the communities.
The worried residents speaking to this reporter indicated that their only source of water, River Annuru has been polluted and coloured by the activities of these illegal miners who are suspected to be operating with a chanffan machine on the said river.
Residents of the aforementioned towns which fall under respective districts such as Bosome Freho, Bosomtwi, and Asante Akyem are mainly known to be farmers. But their hopes in gaining from the farming activities are gradually fading out as these illegal miners keep on tormenting their farming activities.
Nana Tabi Bonsu lll, Chief of Bomfa Akyiase speaking to this reporter disclosed that he and the entire traditional council has lodged a formal complaint to the Pemenase police station in the Bosome Freho district of the Ashanti region so that they could help fight the galamsay operators who invade in their river bodies to mine.
Briefing the media, Okyiame Sarpong, chief linguist to the Akyiase chief cautioned that whoever’s found in the Anuro river will be chased out and dealt with.
He called for government intervention before the galamsay gets out of hands in Bosome Freho district.
He pleaded with the District police commander, Ashanti Regional Police command, and IGP to collaborate with the chiefs to fight this canker.
