Newly born Babies Will Receive ¢200 each and I will Make universities free for all- Kofi Akpaloo

Flag bearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo has disclosed that he will give newly born babies ¢200 each and also make universities free for all.

In an exclusive interview monitored by browngh, Akpaloo said that should Ghanaians vote him to power as the president, he will implement a policy which will benefit children below 18 years.

“We[LPG] are going to do things differently from the way NPP and NDC has been handling this economy.

One major thing we’re going to introduce is the child benefit; every child below 18 years will receive a monthly allowance of Ghc200, and if you’re lucky to have twins then they will receive GHc300 each ” Mr Kofi said.

He furthered that, the initiative he will implement will go a long way to help to stimulate the economy to generate demand activities so that whenever there is a production of goods people will have the funds to purchase.

Mr Kofi Akpaloo was of the view that his ‘soon to be put into operation’ policy will eventually serve as a job creation opportunity for all to also enjoy life.

Asked what he will do differently from other political parties that will inform the decision of the electorates to give him their vote, Kofi Akpaloo again stated that his party aside from the Child benefits which focuses on children below 18 will also not leave the adults behind.

According to him, the LPG is going to give unemployment benefits to persons above the ages of 18. He said this package comes with a monthly allowance of Gh400.

He was quick to add that though Gh400 is not any money it’s better to survive on that than to have nothing and worst of it all be dependant on others.

Mrs Ophelia Quansah, first wife of the late Ekow Quansah, has just filed her nomination forms to contest for the parliamentary seat at Mfantseman.

Ophelia was asked by the NPP party to replace her late husband in the upcoming elections.

This caused the crowd to erupt into mourning. It was a solemn march.

NPP Finally Confirms Mfantseman Parliamentary Candidate.

Ophelia Hayford, the first wife of the late Ekow Quansah Hayford, is now the NPP parliamentary nominee for Mfantseman.

The decision was taken at the NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Sunday, October 18, in accordance with Article 12 of the party’s constitution.

The NEC stated that the party had consultations with all stakeholders of the party as well as constituents of Mfantseman before Ophelia Hayford, who had earlier resigned as a police officer, was nominated.

a statement signed by John Boadu, the party’s General Secretary, Ophelia Hayford, the first wife of the late MP who was killed by unknown assailants, was described as having “been a strong pillar in the political life of her late husband, and certainly, her selection as his replacement can only be a step in the right direction”.

The NPP had earlier officially notified the Electoral Commission of the death of Ekow Quansah Hayford, for MP for Mfantseman who was re-contesting for them and requested for a 10-day extension of the nomination period in line with Section 13(4) of C.I. 127 which governs the December 2020 elections.

If Ophelia Hayford is elected on December 7, she will be the third wife of an MP who has succeeded the husband after his demise, at least in the history of Ghana’s fourth republic.

N/R: NPP will retain Wulensi seat; increase Nana Addo’s vote margin – Mac Manu.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will retain the Wulensi seat in the Northern Region.

It is also confident of increasing votes for President Akufo-Addo in the upcoming polls.

An aspirant Alhaji Abdulai Haruna who petitioned party executives over his reservations about the outcome of the NPP parliamentary primaries in the Wulensi constituency has resolved his differences with the party.

He was contesting incumbent MP, Thomas Donkor Ogajah. The incumbent beat him with four votes.

Mr. Haruna and his supporters have subsequently reconciled with the party and promised to work for the victory of the NPP.

Speaking to Citi News after a meeting with Alhaji Abdulai Haruna and his supporters, Campaign Manager of the NPP, Peter Mc-Manu said the party is more than united to win the constituency.

“I want to extend appreciation to the people of Wulensi especially Alhaji Abdulai Haruna and use the occasion to congratulate the people for the unity they have brought to the party in Wulensi and the good works they have done which gives me hope that we are going to retain the seat and increase the margin of vote for the President,” he said.

Some aggrieved NPP members who claim they were unjustifiably disqualified from contesting in the party’s parliamentary primaries have resolved to contest the polls as independent candidates.

Constituencies, where such issues have been reported, include Asokwa, Bekwai and Ahafo-Ano-North.

The NPP had put in place a national reconciliation committee to engage aggrieved candidates going independent.

President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia had been urging party supporters not to back members going independent.

The NPP has written to Parliament to complain about the MP for Fomena in the Ashanti Region, Amoako Andrew Asiamah, who has filed to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate.

“By so doing, he has presumably vacated his seat in Parliament pursuant to Article 97(1)(g) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic,” the party indicated.

The NPP does not expect the decision of some of its members to contest as independent candidates in the December polls to affect its chances.

Deputy General Secretary of the party, Nana Obiri Boahen, says the party has informed all such candidates that they cease to be members of the NPP under Article 3(9) of its constitution.

Nana Obiri Boahen in a Citi News interview said such occurrences are always to be expected but will be properly managed.

“Sometimes, you will not have all the numbers. It is just unfortunate that they have decided to go away. We are dealing with human beings and political parties are run by human beings so it is a natural phenomenon. So we need not be surprised by some of these things. In NPP, thousands will go away and thousands will come in. Never mind because there is nothing we can do. People have spoken and impressed on them, so they want to go with them so that they don’t run them down”, he noted.

Opuni-Agongo trial: AG’s witness’ donation to NPP 2020 campaign pops up in court.

A key prosecution witness in the state’s case against former COCOBOD CEO and two others confirmed in court that he donated motorcycles to the governing New Patriotic Party campaign team in September.

Dr. Yaw Adu-Ampomah’s donation of 35 motorcycles and other items was to boost the fortunes of the NPP in the 2020 general elections in December.

His admission in court sent tongues wagging as the case he has been giving evidence in court has been tagged as a politically motivated trial.

Former CEO of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Stephen Opuni, businessman Seidu Agongo and Agricult Ghana Company Limited, are facing 27 charges of willfully causing financial loss of GH¢217 to the state, through three separate fertiliser supply contracts between 2014 and 2016.

They have pleaded not guilty to all the charges and are on self-recognisance bail of GH¢300,000 each.

The NDC Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo has instance described the ongoing trial as nothing short of “naked persecution” of the opposition party.
Counsel for the accused have had cause to, on some occasions, drew the court’s attention to comments made by top government officials including a deputy Attorney General and even President Nana Akufo-Addo himself, which to them clearly vindicate their long-held conviction of a political trial.

Dr. Adu-Ampomah, according to a news report reproduced by Ghanaweb, had during a short ceremony held in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, where the motorcycles and other items were donated to the NPP, charged the party to engage in a door-to-door campaign because this year’s electioneering campaign will be different from previous ones.
The items were reportedly distributed to 18 constituencies in the Eastern region particularly where the NPP has no MP, to aid them in their campaign ahead of the elections.

But when asked under cross-examination by Mr. Nutifafa Nutsukpui, stand-in lead counsel for the second and third accused persons – Seidu Agongo and Agricult Ghana Ltd – if he was a member of the NPP, Dr. Adu-Ampomah answered in the negative.

“No my Lord,” the star witness told the court on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.
Nutifafa pushed further, “sir I put it to you that your evidence here is coloured by your political persuasion”.

But the witness replied, “No my Lord, my evidence is guided by my being a Ghanaian and as part of my civil responsibility. If anything is going against Ghana it is my right to stand against it.”

Meanwhile, cross-examination of Dr. Yaw Adu-Ampomah who has been in the witness box for almost a year ended on October 7 upon the instruction of the trial judge, Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga, who was recently promoted to the Supreme Court sitting in as addition High Court judge.

  • Mfantseman Netizens Rejects Widow of the late MP Ekow Hayford

Mfantseman Netizens Rejects Widow of the late MP Ekow Hayford

The Concerned youth and citizens of the mfantseman constituency have kicked against the proposed nomination of the widow of the murdered Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Ekow Keansah Hayford as the new Parliamentary Candidate to lead the Party in the 2020 polls.

The name of Mrs Ophelia Hayford, the wife of the deceased MP had come up strongly and sources say the National Executive Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was considering presenting her soon.

But the Concerned Youth of the Constituency had asked the NEC to rather consider Mr. James Korsah – Brown as the replacement of the late Member of Parliament ( MP) Ekow Quansah Hayford to help retain the party’s seat in the Coming December 2020 polls.

Mr. James Korsah-Brown came second in the Constituency’s NPP Parliamentary Primaries earlier this year.

“ We recommend Mr. James Korsah – Brown to the NEC to be the replacement of our deceased MP as he is known to be active and has immensely contributed his quota towards the development of Mfantseman Constituency”.

Pengmediagh gathered on Wednesday that Mrs. Ophelia Hayford, a Police Officer had tendered in a resignation letter to the Police Administration.

In a press statement signed and copied to the pengmediagh on Wednesday, Mr. Edward Afful Agyire, the conveyor of the group appealed to NEC to halt its decision and have a proper dialogue with stakeholders before a suitable and formidable candidate could be appointed and presented.

Its said the decision on a successor should be done with a full consideration into the future development and for the good people of Mfantseman.

It noted that if the NEC refused to pay heed to their concerns, then the Party may lose the seat to the opposition party in the 2020 election.

It emphatically raised concerns that the “ No wife no Vote” placards and chanting at the house of the late MPs house was not a representation made of their interest as a party.

The statement said that the intended decision by NEC has already started dividing the party in the constituency since some party faithful have threatened to vote against it.

“ We have never seen the wife of the late MP on any political campaign in the constituency, we are not aware if she is a card bearing member of the party or not, “ He added.

Mr. Hayford was brutally shot and killed by a group of gun men suspected to be armed robbers, on Thursday, October 08, on his way from a campaign tour on the Abeadze-Dominase road.

“All those calling my lawyer that I should be left alone to be jailed, the case is not over so I am not going to say anything about it. If you are not brave you won’t support the NPP because I have NPP members calling my lawyer to ask him why he won’t leave me so I get jailed,” he stated

Mr Agyapong however made reference to a quotation in the bible and said the criticisms and sabotage from people within his party is something that is expected.

“The bible says that any leader who is not criticized by some of his people means that he is not doing something right. So obviously you will get people who don’t like you,” he said.

Revealing why persons within his own political party will be after his head, the influential NPP member said it is because some people fear he may be nurturing a presidential ambition and mentioned that he is rather focused on growing his businesses, making more money and creating employment opportunities.

“They are saying I want to become president, me Kennedy Agyapong. Just give me work so I can make some cash and open industries. If you know the industries I am putting up, I want be president of Tema (industrial area) instead. Those who want to be president are there, just give me contracts, case closed. Stop the envy and asking that I be jailed, for contempt how long will I even be jailed for?” he questioned.

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, verbally attacked a High Court Judge, Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni, on same Net2 TV for issuing an injunction against him in a land dispute.

The MP’s tirade on live TV went as far as him calling the judge a “fool” for which he has been asked by a high court to come and explain why he should not be punished for contempt.

Ophelia Hayford, the wife of murdered Member of Parliament for Mfantseman has tendered in her resignation as an officer of the Ghana Police Service ahead of a likely confirmation as her husband’s replacement on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party in the December polls.

According to the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, Madam Ophelia, who holds the rank of an Assistant Superintendent of the Ghana Police Service, has resigned in order to take up her new role following the murder of her husband and the apparent unanimous endorsement she received from party members and Mfantseman constituents.

Yes, it is to a large extent true. I have been to the constituency several times and the whole constituency leadership and party members, the regional [Executive] setup and the national [Executive] setup deem it fit that his wife [Ophelia] is the backbone of the husband,” Mr Boadu said in a Joynews interview monitored by GhanaWeb.

She knows the constituency very well and considering the large support that the husband had and the kind of difficulties that the constituency is going through, a lot more of the constituents think that we should let the wife continue,” Mr Boadu added

Speaking further, the NPP General Secretary indicated that there is a massive consensus without any form of descent since the name of the late MP’s wife came up for consideration as a possible replacement of her husband and indicated that the party will formally announce a decision on her nomination later.

Mr Ekow Kwansah Hayford, the incumbent NPP MP of Mfantseman Constituency who was also the party’s candidate for the December 2020 polls, was killed by suspected robbers on Friday, October 9, 2020, when he and his campaign team were attacked on their way from a campaign activity within the constituency.

The MP had filed his nomination with the Electoral Commission a day before his death.

Based on provisions in Section 4 of the Public Elections Regulations 2020, C.I. 127, which states that: “Where at the close of nominations, but before the election, one of the candidates dies, a further period of 10 days shall be allowed for nominations,” the NPP has thus initiated the move to find his replacement.
