Nana Addo, NPP using the free hot meal to desperately campaign for votes – Apaak

The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak has described the government’s free hot meal for final year Junior High Students (JHS) as a desperate move in the face of an impending defeat in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary polls.

The MP who is also a Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament says the move was an attempt to force the students to see posters of the NPP’s presidential candidate and also to shout four more years for Nana before given their hot meal.

Dr. Apaak added the government is only seeking to exploit the students for their selfish political interest.

According to him, he has received several videos by some students on the free hot meal exposing the desperation of government.

In the said videos, mini posters of the president and a parliamentary candidate were embossed on the package that came with the food served.

The students were also seen expressing their displeasure about the quality of the food.

The students were also asked to shout “four more for Nana” before they were handed their food.

“Folks, such desperation is a clear sign that NADAA and his NPP government know they are heading for a massive defeat. Why would a government that claims to have done better than any other in the history of Ghana resort to such exploitation? It was the SHS students, it backfired, and now JHS students? Well, we now know that the real motive for the hot meal for JHS students is to force students to see posters or say 4 more for a failed President. Just watch the videos below. I’ve received several, but the two make the point!”

NDC describes Bawumia’s 13 housing unit project in Sekondi as a scam

The Western Regional office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted a claim by the Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawamia that government is building 13 affordable housing units at Ituma Estate which is about 75% complete

According to the party, the said project does not exist.

Western Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Richard Kirk Mensah who embarked on a fact-finding mission with media personnel to ascertain the truth on Monday, August 24, 2020, found that the said project does not exist in the area.

The move by the Western Region NDC comes on the back of a presentation made by the Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawamia at a Town Hall Meeting held at the Academy of Arts in Accra on August 18, 2020, to tell Ghanaians the government’s story with regards to infrastructural development since they assumed office in 2017.

The Vice President put the total number of the housing projects initiated by Akufo-Addo’s government at 1,229 with 232 completed and 997 ongoing.

Mr Mensah stressed that the Vice President claims that the housing project at Ituma Estate which is about 75 percent complete and Essei Lagoon Bridge in Sekondi were done by this government are all palpable lies.

According to him, the bridge was constructed and commissioned by the regime of former President John Dramani Mahama at s cost of 4.8 million dollars by China Railway Wuju Corporation, the contractor.

Mr Kirk Mensah said he became shocked when he heard the Vice President spewing ‘lies’ in public against the oaths he swore to be honest and truthful at all times on January 7, 2017.

He said the estate which belongs to the State Housing Corporation has been in existence for the past twenty years.

He added that he has personally acquired two properties from the place for his friends 10 years ago.

The Western Regional Communication Officer for the main opposition party described Dr Bawamia as a dishonest person who is full of ‘lies’ and deceit.

He, therefore, took the opportunity to call on Ghanaians to reject the government of Nana Akufo-Addo because he has failed to deliver his promises.

He said the NPP government could not boast of a single physical project in any District in the Western Region that had been completed and commissioned

He challenged the NPP government to come out and tell Ghanaians any physical project that they had completed and commissioned in any District in the region since 2017.

He also called on the good people of the Western Region to vote massively against the NPP government come December 7th and bring back Mr John Mahama who built the Ghana Gas Processing Plant at Atuabo, Sekondi Fishing Harbour, Gwiraman SHS, Sankor SHS, Fire Service Station at Nkroful, Axim among others.

A resident, Nana Kwame who has been residing at the estate for the past 10 years in an interview with the media denied having knowledge of the project.

He emphasized that “We have not seen any truck bringing load for government project here apart from the individual workers who are working on individual houses, there is no government affordable housing project at this estate as claimed by Alhaji Dr Bawamia”.

All efforts to get some responses from the State Housing Corporation in Sekondi-Takoradi proved futile at the time of filing this report.

President Akufo-Addo in the led up to the 2016 elections promised to deal with corruption and nip the canker in the bud. He promised to prosecute all government appointees who have and will indulge themselves in corrupt practices.

This strong desire led him to set up the Office of the Special Prosecutor who was mandated to fish out and prosecute corrupt officials. However, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has metaphorically become a dog who barks more than it bites.

Pockets of corruption scandals have plagued the government and Kwame A Plus believes the president shot himself in the foot by appointing individuals who have zero values and are fostering corruption.

  • Transport consultant condemns Mahama’s promise to legalise Okada

Transport consultant condemns Mahama’s promise to legalise Okada

A road safety expert and transport consultant has said a proposal to legalise the use of motorbikes for use as commercial means of transport (Okada) in the country is a bad one.

Cecil Gabrah believes the promise to legalise and regularise the activity is a political gimmick.

His comments come on the back of a promise by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to regulate and legalise Okada if elected as President on December 7, 2020.

Speaking to Joy News, Mr Gabrah said “politicians must not take advantage of their inability to create jobs for the youth and use Okada as bait for votes. That is so wrong in politics and they must stop it.”

According to him, the risk involved in regularising Okada in Ghana is too high.

“In Accra alone we have a lot of very fatal cases. Speak to Korle Bu Teaching and 37 Military Hospital and they will give you the daily statistics of fatalities,” he said.

Proponents of the regularisation and legalisation of Okada say it will create jobs, however, Cecil Gabrah disagrees.

“If you create jobs and people are going to die what are you talking about?” he said.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Public Safety has said a sure way to prevent the associated road accidents with the use of motorbikes as commercial means of transport (Okada) is to move it away from sprawling city centres.

Executive Director of the public safety advocate, Nana Yaw Akwada, told GhanaWeb on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 that reports on Okada-related accidents show that majority of them happen in the busy urban areas.

According to Nana Yaw Akwada, Mr Mahama “must tell us when you say regulating are you going to move them from the city centres? Which is what we at the Bureau prefer; because more than 80% of the deaths associated with the okada cOme from the city centres. And from the commercial spaces, not on our highways or the fringes.”

Ghana’s laws make it illegal for a motorbike or a tricycle (aboboya) to be used as a commercial means of transport, however, for about eight years, their use and popularity have seen sharp rise.

Flagbearer of the All Peoples Congress(APC) Hassan Ayariga says he’ll leave his comfortable home and sleep in the police cell on the first night he’s elected as President.

According to him, this will indicate to his appointees how ruthless he’ll be should any of them be involved in corruption while in office.

“…Under Hassan Ayariga the first thing I want to assure is that when I become President, the first day I’m going to sleep in the prison. The first day I become President that day I will not sleep in my house. I’m going to go to the police station and ask them to open the door I want to sleep in there because that is going to be the signal that if the President himself can sleep in the cell whoever is corrupt no favour no fear will sleep there,” he told Joy FM in an interview.

Hassan Ayariga was acclaimed as the flagbearer for the party on Monday, August 24, 2020,

Mr. Ayariga who left the People’s National Congress (PNC), which he represented at the polls in 2012 to form the APC ahead of the 2016 election, has been the party’s only flagbearer contestant.

  • Akufo-Addo, Bawumia confused about proposed airport in Cape Coast – Ricketts-Hagan

Akufo-Addo, Bawumia confused about proposed airport in Cape Coast – Ricketts-Hagan

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South constituency, Kweku Ricketts-Hagan has described the President Nana Akuffo-Addo and his Vice- President Dr Bawumia as an utterly confused people on the issue of whether Cape Coast should have an airport.

He said the promises, ‘the lies and the inconsistencies’ between the pair have finally come to a “dead end” as they have runout of anymore road to peddle their lies.

“It was astonishing to see the pair in Cape Coast over the weekend shamefully displaying to each other and to Ghanaians that they have lost the plot of their own lies and inconsistencies.

Speaking to reporters, on the NPP Manifesto launch in Cape Coast over the week end, Mr Ricketts-Hagan further said “What happened in Cape Coast over the weekend was shocking, the President had clearly said no, without using the word, to an airport in Cape Coast, looking unconvinced that Cape Coast needs an airport, then less than 24 hours the Vice- President Dr Bawumia, who was sharing the same stage at UCC, comes out to announce that the NPP government will construct an airport in Cape Coast, if they are given another 4 years.” It makes you wonder who is in charge of the country.

“It is incredible and beggars belief that the President of the Republic and his Vice- President, could stoop so low to deceive Cape Coasters, the people of the Central Region and ultimately Ghanaians that they are going to build an airport they clearly don’t agree on, they have not thought through, they have no plans for, no budget for (we will see what trick the come up with in November). But the Central Region will not fall for their empty promises and lies this time round.”

The President on Friday August 21, when being interviewed by ATL FM in Cape Coast during his tour of the Central Region, said the appeal by residents of Cape Coast to have an airport will be subjected to a critical assessment before a decision can be arrived. One could clearly tell from the interview that he was not in favour of an airport being built in Cape Coast, though he recognizes the tourism potential of Cape Coast in particular and Central Region in general.

The President further said “… the response of the government should not just be that the people say we need an airport, the response should be that the matter has been thoroughly examined and the need has been established. That is the process the Ministry of Aviation is going through.”

“We have to be able to decide for ourselves whether the need for the airport can be justified when you have Accra, and you have Kumasi, you have Takoradi, you have Tamale and whether on the coast with Accra’s presence there’s the need for an additional airport.” So this is a President who clearly is not interested in an airport in Cape Coast.

In less than 24 hours, the Vice-President, who was speaking at the manifesto launch at the University of Cape Coast on Saturday August 22, embarrassingly contradicted the President by saying that the government will construct an airport in Cape Coast, if the NPP government is given another four year mandate in the upcoming December elections.

Dr Bawumia said “We are going to build a new harbour and a new airport in Cape Coast. It is very critical that the Central Region gets its own airport.”

The NPP government is now desperately formulating policies and their manifesto on the road. They have clearly become “pay-as-you –go” government.

  • We need jobs not an airport – Cape Coast residents to govt

We need jobs not an airport – Cape Coast residents to govt

Residents in the Central Region, especially Cape Coast say they prefer the creation of jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the area and not the building of an airport as promised by the Akufo-Addo goverment.

Speaking at the launch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2020 Manifesto in Cape Coast on Saturday Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia promised that the Akufo-Addo government during its second term will build a harbour and an airport in the coastal town.

“For the people of Cape Coast, I have good news for you. We are building a new harbour in Cape Coast and a new airport in Cape Coast,” he said.

At the manifesto launch, Dr Bawumia noted that building an airport in Cape Coast was very critical in the support of what he described as one of the country’s major tourist and economic hubs.

“An airport makes a lot of sense in Cape Coast. It’s a real tourist hub and between Greater Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast you have a triangle that really is a hub for economic activities,” he said.

The residents in an interview with Kasapa FM News Yaw Boagyan stated that building an airport in Cape Coast is a misplaced priority. Instead the need construction of factories to reduce the high unemployment rate in the area.

“There are a lot of people unemplyed in this area and we need work to do so we can feed ourselves and other dependants. For us, building an airport here is not necessary. We’ll be happy if more industries are built,” Ato Hayford said.

Another resident added: “Building an airport may be good but it should be distance future viosion. Of what importance will an airport be to the many people here who have no jobs and struggle to feed themselves,” Araba Hayford asked.

Some of the residents suspect that their chiefs must have made the request of building an airport in Cape Coast to the President, insisting that the project is not a priority.

Mahama will restore Ghanaian participation in banking sector – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has said former President John Dramani Mahama will restore Ghanaian participation in the banking sector in Ghana.

He said it was unfortunate that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration has collapsed local participation in the sector in the name of the cleanup exercise.

His comment comes after the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, has asked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to feel free to copy the content of the manifesto of the governing party ahead of this year’s elections.

Mr Boadu, who was speaking at the unveiling of the 2020 manifesto document of the NPP on Saturday, August 22 in Cape Coast, said the NDC were waiting for the NPP to launch their document to enable them copy the ideas in it for theirs.

He said: “We have launched our manifesto today. They are waiting for us to launch our manifesto so they can copy, they are free to copy.”

He further stated: “This manifesto promises to be an embodiment of progress and prosperity and promises for the Ghanaian people.

But speaking on TV3’S New Day Monday, August 24, the opposition Lawmaker, Sam George, said the NDC will offer a better manifesto document to Ghanaians.

He said “How do you copy a manifesto that is empty? How do you copy a manifesto that does not inspire any hope or any enthusiasm in Ghana? How do you copy a dead document?

He added “Ghanaians are waiting for the NDC’s manifesto where we will speak to the restoring the banking and financial sector jobs.

Akufo-Addo didn’t want to leak airport promise in ATL interview – Bissue

On Friday, a day before the NPP’s manifesto launch in Cape Coast, President Akufo Addo stated in an interview on ATL FM that a critical need assessment must be carried out first before an airport can be constructed in the Central Region.

“The response of the government should be that the matter has been thoroughly examined and the need has been established. That is the process the Ministry of Aviation is going through.”

“We have to be able to decide for ourselves whether the need for the airport can be justified when you have Accra, you have Kumasi, you have Takoradi, you have Tamale whether on the coast with Accra’s presence there’s the need for an additional airport,” the president said.

However, launching the party’s manifesto on Saturday, Dr. Bawumia announced that the party will construct an airport and a harbour in cape coast if the party is re-elected.

After the announcement by the Vice President, a section of Ghanaians have questioned whether the president was unaware of the contents in the manifesto.

But speaking in an interview on the Morning Starr, Mr Bissue who is also the General Secretary of the NPP in the Western region said the president was just keeping his cards to his chest.

“I think the President was keeping his cards close to his chest with regards to giving Cape Coast an airport.”
