I am the street queen in gospel music – Joyce Blessing

Gospel musician, Joyce Blessing, says she is the queen of the street in gospel music in the Ghanaian entertainment industry.

To the ‘I Swerve’ hitmaker, her mandate is to reach out to the people on the street and to draw them to the kingdom of God.

“Joyce Blessing is a street queen in the gospel music industry, the youth love my songs and God has used my songs to draw more people to his kingdom through street concerts,” she said.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Work and Happiness show which was monitored by dikoder.com ,she said her mandate to draw the lost to God’s kingdom is why she mostly performs at street concerts.

“Jesus did not come for the righteous but the lost and those people are not in our churches but on the streets and they desire an equal opportunity to know God and just like the story of Jonah, the street is where God wants me to reach out in this time within my dispensation,” she said.

  • Fumbisi SHS girl jumps from 2nd floor, 19 others collapse after ghost scare

Fumbisi SHS girl jumps from 2nd floor, 19 others collapse after ghost scare

About twenty students of Fumbisi Senior High /Agric School in the Upper East Region collapsed between Sunday and Monday after allegedly seeing ghosts lurking on campus, a situation which has caused the management to send all students home and shut the place down temporarily until further notice.

Three of the students collapsed on Sunday night and 17 more on Monday.

They were hospitalised at Fumbisi Clinic and the Sandema Government Hospital.

Sixteen of those taken to the Sandema Government Hospital have been discharged.

As a result of the ghost scare, some students went on the rampage over the mysterious mass fainting of their fellow students – a situation which compelled the school authorities to shut down the place.

The District Police Commander for Builsa South, Superintendent Samuel Ntoso, told Class News’ regional correspondent Derick Abakisi which was monitored by dikoder.com that “a strange object”, according to reports, “which looked like a human being, appeared where the children were studying” in the night around 11 pm and, so, they “became frightened and started running for dear life in various directions”.

“So, one of the third-year General Arts students, a lady, whose name was given as Salomey Acheampong, happened to jump from the second floor and landed on the ground, so, she got injured and was rushed to the Fumbisi Clinic. But the information we have now is that she has been transferred to Sandema.

“Then also around 1 am this morning [Monday], that’s at dawn, some of the students, according to the information we have, went to the housemistress’ bungalow and threw stones to damage some of her properties. From there they continued to the headmaster’s bungalow where they assaulted the night security man. So, when day broke, the troubles were still going on. [The school] prepared their [students] breakfast for them but they said they will not eat. So, the headmaster, in consultation with the DCE and the Regional Director of Education, took a decision that in order not to sit down for anything bad to happen, they should close the school down until further notice.

“According to the information that we have, some of the girls have some attacks which looks spiritual so they have been rushed to the Sandema Government Hospital. The school has been closed down and all the students have left the campus”, he narrated.

  • BBC failed in ‘s$x for grades’ scandal investigations – Manasseh Azure Awuni

BBC failed in ‘s$x for grades’ scandal investigations – Manasseh Azure Awuni

Renowned investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has argued that the BBC Africa Eye exposé on “s$x for grades” cannot be accepted or ought to be rejected because it did not focus on how undeserved grades were offered to s$xually harassed female students.

Commenting on the raging issue on social media, the award-winning, reigning West Africa Journalist of the year, observed that the BBC should have focused on the subject of their investigation, which it failed to do.

“Investigative journalism is like academic research. If you have randomly or purposively (as in Prof. Gyampo’s case) sampled a university lecturer who allegedly offers undeserved grades to his s$xually harassed students, then you can only use one approach to test your hypothesis: let your engagement focus on the subject of the investigation. Go to the lecturer and tell him you are one of his over one thousand students and you have failed his subject or you are not sure of passing his subject. If he asks for sex in order to give you the grade, you have your story,” he explained.

Mr Azure, therefore, criticized the approach adopted by the investigative team:

“You can easily get a fake student ID card and index number that show you a student taking his course. When you are going to bust a lecturer offering grades in return for s$x, you don’t go to him or her as someone seeking mentorship or to seek national service placement without mentioning the subject of grades,” he added.

Using the example of Professor Gyampo of the University of Ghana to further buttress his point, Mr Awuni averred that even though he is not justifying the actions of the Professor, he finds that there was no element of coercion or victimization which is implied in “s$x for grades” situations.

“In the case of Prof. Gyampo, as shown in the video, the lecturer made advances at a student who wanted to be mentored. In the process, he told her to be free to accept or reject the proposal. She did not give in. He requested a hug after buying her shoes. She declined. And they parted ways,” he contended.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Anti-S$xual Harassment Committee of the University of Ghana has stated that she finds no case of s$x for grades in the documentary.

“Per the analysis of the video, there’s no direct correlation between lecturer’s conduct and the allegations made by the video. The evidence does not point to s$x for grade. When we talk of sex for grade, we didn’t see much involvement of the lecturers of the University of Ghana,” she revealed to Starr FM monitored by dikoder.com.

  • Jubilee House to switch to solar power in coming days — Senior Minister

Jubilee House to switch to solar power in coming days — Senior Minister

The government has announced it is going to change power installation at the Jubilee House to solar power in the coming days as part of a bigger national agenda to promote the use of solar energy in the country.

Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo who disclosed this at the opening of the 5th Renewable Energy Fair and National Energy symposium said the move is to increase the use of renewable energy and reduce the financial burden government puts on utility distributors.

“We are committed to the promotion of renewable energy in the country. We are in the process of connecting the Jubilee House on solar at the seat of government following a successful connection of the Energy Ministry to solar which has reduced the power intake from the national grid and lessening the economic and financial burden on their activities.”

He further disclosed that government is seeking funds from donors to connect all government facilities to solar power.

“We are also negotiating with our development partners to provide funding support to connect key government facilities including the Ministries, municipalities, departments and agencies to solar power”

This, he believes, will also reduce government’s burden of having to pay utility bills for those establishments

Meanwhile, the government has assured that the renegotiation of the Take or Pay contracts will reduce the cost of power in the country.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in the Mid-year budget review announces a renegotiation exercise for all contracts within the Energy sector as a way of reducing the financial burden regarding energy generation in the contract.

According to the government, there is the need to renegotiate the contracts within the energy sector which were all issued on take or pay basis.

This means that while the country is paying for all the over 4,000 megawatts of power generated, only 40% which is equivalent to 2,300 MegaWatts is actually used, while the cost of the remaining 60 percent of excess capacity is a loss incurred by the state.

  • Rising Arsenal Star Asked to Snub Brazil for Italian National team

Rising Arsenal Star Asked to Snub Brazil for Italian National team

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has made contact with representatives of Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli with a view to having the young Brazilian snub the country of his birth and instead pledge his allegiance to the Italy national team.

Martinelli was born in the Brazilian city of Guarulhos in the state of Sao Paolo, but it has emerged that he is eligible for an Italian passport through his father, and the Azzurri are keen to sign up the 18-year-old as he has not yet turned out for the Selecao.

Brazil national team coach Tite did actually call-up the youngster to join pre-tournament training ahead of the 2019 Copa America, which Brazil went on to win, but the trip was merely to have Martinelli and a select few other starlets get experience in a national team set-up.

Tite’s former right-hand man, Edu, is now director of football at Arsenal, could well step in to convince the player to reject Italy’s proposal, though it is understood that Martinelli has not yet ruled anything out.

Guardiola: Manchester CityStill in Title Race.

Pep Guardiola admitted his Manchester City players were “nervous” as they were beaten by Wolves at the Etihad Stadium thanks to two goals from a former Barcelona player, Adama Traoré.

“It was a bad day, sometimes it happens,” Guardiola said. “We started quite well and after we conceded two situations in our buildup where it’s impossible to defend, we got a little bit nervous. We controlled them better in the second half but at the end with us attacking and people upfront, we lost balls in positions [where] it is so difficult and they were clinical. Before that, we hit the post but the way we played was not good. It was not a good day.”

Pressed as to why City was nervous, Guardiola added: “It sometimes happens. We spoke about this: ‘Come on guys, a lot of games [still] to play, we did it [last season] and we’re going to do it again.’ We lost to a good team that was really well-organized, good physicality, strong in the air and so fast on the counterattack. We knew it.”

He added the gap to Liverpool: “It is a lot of points. They didn’t drop points [due to] many circumstances. I had a feeling we were not quite bad. Today was the day we create less than the other matches, even in the [3-2] loss at Norwich we create a lot.

“We face many teams defending with deep systems and more or less we found a way to do it but today we had a problem. It is better not to think that one team is eight points ahead.

Juve snap inter milan’s winning run.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus inflicted a first defeat of the season on Inter Milan in Serie A after leaving the San Siro Stadium with a 2-1 win on Sunday.

Ronaldo was heavily involved in the winning goal, combining with Rodrigo Bentancur to setup substitute Gonzalo Higuain for an 80th-minute winner after Lautaro Martinez had scored from the penalty spot to answer Paulo Dybala’s opener for the visitors.

The result has sent the Bianconeri to the top of the table and ruined Inter boss Antonio Conte’s first match against his former club.

Juve’s positive lineup, featuring Ronaldo and Dybala up top with Federico Bernardeschi positioned behind, was rewarded with an early goal when Dybala converted a low shot in the fourth minute.

The finish emboldened the visitors, who poured forward in numbers, moving the ball imaginatively and at pace. Ronaldo went close on nine minutes when he drifted in from the left and crashed a shot off the bar.

Inter were showing signs of nerves, but a mistake at the back helped them get back into the game. Matthijs de Ligt was flagged for handball, and the video assistant referee confirmed the infraction along with the award of a penalty to Martinez.

The Argentinian made no mistake from the spot to continue a prolific recent run. Signed from Racing Club in 2018, Martinez has been gaining admirers for his all-action displays:

Tottenham Boss Pochettino Doesn’t Fear Sack

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says he is not worried about the sack despite his side’s poor form.

Spurs lost 3-0 at Brighton on Saturday to compound a miserable week that also saw them thrashed 7-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The club was also knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties by League Two Colchester last month.

When asked if he feared for his job, Pochettino said: “No I am not worried, what worries me is life, not football.”

Speaking at a news conference after Saturday’s game at Amex Stadium, Pochettino said: “Football is a game that sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. The problem for us – it was win, win, win and it was praise for everyone.

“Now in the last two games, it was a tough situation to accept. But I don’t want to be a philosopher or talk in a way that is not good.”
