Antioxidants are molecules that block oxidation, a chemical reaction that forms highly reactive atoms with unpaired electrons known as free radicals.

    3. It Promotes Hydration

Water is crucial to your body’s function, playing numerous important roles (7Trusted Source).

It is involved in processes like temperature regulation and the transportation of waste products and nutrients.

    4. It May Aid in Weight Loss

Cucumbers could potentially help you lose weight in a few different ways.

First of all, they are low in calories.

Each one-cup (104-gram) serving contains just 16 calories, while an entire 11-ounce (300-gram) cucumber contains only 45 calories.

  • 7 Health Benefits of Tomatoes

    7 Health Benefits of Tomatoes

Turns out the humble tomato is full of surprising perks for your skin, your gut, and more.

    Protect against cancer

Observational studies have found links between the superstar compound lycopene and fewer incidences of prostate, ovarian, lung, and stomach cancers.

    Help with diabetes management

Tomatoes may be a protective food for people with type 2 diabetes: In one study, people with diabetes who supplemented with cooked tomatoes for 30 days experienced a decrease in lipid peroxidation, a chain reaction in which substances called free radicals attack fat, leading to damage that ups the risk of heart disease. This is particularly important, because diabetes doubles the risk of stroke and heart attack.

    Improve you vision

Lycopene is also good for your eyes. And that’s not the only peeper-protective nutrient in tomatoes; they contain lutein and beta-carotene as well. According to research, those nutrients support vision and protect against eye conditions including cataracts and macular degeneration.

    They protect heart health

Tomatoes contain an antioxidant called lycopene, which is responsible for their red color. Research suggests that in terms of heart health benefits, it’s more effective to eat tomatoes and tomato products than take lycopene supplements. Other studies have shown that higher blood levels of lycopene are tied to lower death rates for people with metabolic syndrome, a cluster of risk factors that raise the chances of developing heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.

Tomatoes are a great source of vitamins

A single tomato can provide about 40% of the daily recommended minimum of vitamin C. What’s more, tomatoes supply vitamin A, which supports immunity, vision, and skin health; vitamin K, which is good for your bones; and potassium, a key nutrient for heart function, muscle contractions, and maintaining a healthy blood pressure and fluid balance.

    Boost digestive health

The fluid and fiber in tomatoes may be helpful if you’re prone to constipation. (According to the USDA one large tomato contains 6 ounces of fluid, and 1.5 grams of fiber.) Just be aware that in some people, the acidity from cooked tomatoes may trigger or worsen acid reflux and indigestion.

    Guard skin health

A 2011 study found that the combination of tomato paste and olive oil protected against sun damage, and boosted the production of pro-collagen, a molecule that gives the skin its structure and keeps it firm and youthful. Scientists believe that the lycopene in tomatoes is key. It’s at its highest concentration when tomatoes have been cooked, and olive oil boosts its absorption from your digestive system into your bloodstream.

Election 2020: ‘High-quality healthcare is a right for all’ says primary care physician

Dr. Angela M. Bell is an internal medicine and sports medicine physician in Chicago.

In this opinion piece, she shares her perspective on the upcoming 2020 election in the United States. Dr. Bell calls on society to “make space for humanity amongst the profit,” and urges voters to carefully consider which candidate is best placed to address their concerns about healthcare.
Every election is said to be the most important election, but this time it feels different.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on the U.S. Not only have the undercurrents of racism become tidal waves, but the fragility of our healthcare system and its glaring inequities have moved to center stage.

The past 4 years have highlighted exactly how much separates us. I have found myself, at times, wondering how we can call ourselves the “United States” when divisive rhetoric and actions have seeped into everything from football to public health.

I am hoping that the silver lining of this pandemic will be a true uniting around the idea that high-quality healthcare is a right for all.

Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia caused all the confusion surrounding my name- Bawumia Says

Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has revealed that his late father, Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia caused all the confusion surrounding his name.

Revealing more details on Kumasi based Pure Fm in an interview this morning, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia disclosed that there are a lot of mispronunciations surrounding his name currently among Ghanaians.

He says most people refer to him as Mamudu whilst others call him Mahamadu, there are also others who also call him Mahmoud. Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia indicated that, the confusion is emanating from his late father Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, who used to call him Mahmud when he was alive.

According to him his father shelved the real name (Mahamadu) and referred to him Mahmud. He adds that a lot of people copied his father and that has brought about the confusion.

Host of the programme, Kwame Adinkra who asked the question wanted to know his real name since most people have different ways of pronouncing it.  Dr Bawumia in a response noted that:

“Yes, you are right. there is a lot of confusion surrounding my name, some call me Mahmud, others call me Mahamadu, Mamoud and all that. My late father caused all those confusions because when I was young, he used to call me Mahmud at home and that is what neighbors and friends copied and now most people are also used to that name. So, I blame my father for introducing that confusion to my name”. Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia indicated.

He added that, his registered name on his birth certificate is Mahamadu Bawumia, and that is the official name he is aware of.  “But the correct pronunciation of my name is Mahamadu. That is what is written on the birth certificate officially”. He added.

  • Supreme Court gives Kennedy Agyapong Special Treatment in Criminal Contempt of Court

Supreme Court gives Kennedy Agyapong Special Treatment in Criminal Contempt of Court

The Attorney General has been directed by the Supreme Court to take over the criminal contempt case of Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong in what has been seen as an attempt to let the loudmouthed lawmaker go scot-free.

Deputy Attorney Godfred Yeboah Dame, who was in court for the ruling was directed by the apex court to study the affidavit and argue the case in court on Wednesday, October 14.

The development is a small victory for the loose cannon MP for Assin Central and his legal team who had petitioned the Supreme Court to quash all orders by Justice Wunta Wuni’s High Court regarding the case, in what critics have warned is a systematic attempt from the highest level in the Akufo Addo administration to ensure that Ken Agyapong walks free.

Ken Agyapong who at a point is believed to have malingered, feigning coronavirus infection in order to buy time so that the High Court which had cited him for contempt is slowed down, had also requested the apex court to remove the case from Justice Wunta Wuni’s court.

Mr. Agyapong’s lawyers on September 17, invoked the supervisory jurisdiction of the Apex court to stop Justice Wuni’s contempt trial involving the Assin Central Member of Parliament, and to quash all orders made by the Judge in that respect.

The processes at the Supreme court were however served on the Registrar of the High Court through the Judicial Secretary and on behalf of Justice Wuni.

The High Court Registrar subsequently filed an affidavit in opposition to the application without recourse to the Attorney General.

Mr. Agyapong had harshly insulted Justice Wunta Wuni of the High Court who is presiding over a land case involving Ken Agyapong in very shocking stinkers. Among other things the saucy MP had implied that judges, in general, are corrupt bribe-takers.

He bathed the judge with insults on his TV station, Net 2.

The court took note and cited him for contempt. Agyapong, who had boasted during his insulting tirade that he would squarely face the judge then took to disappearing acts in order to escape bailiffs who were looking for him to serve him summons for a contempt hearing.

While playing hide and seek with the law, he caused his Lawyers to petition the Supreme Court to petition the Supreme Court to quash all orders by Justice Wunta Wuni’s High Court and also remove the case from the High Court.

But the noose still kept closing in on him and so the notorious Assin Central MP soon announced that he was suffering from coronavirus infection. The time was bought this way until the Supreme court order granting him his wishes.

Many fear, that the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Anin Yeboah is under pressure from the Akufo-Addo Jubilee House to dismiss the clear contempt case against Agyapong, who is a bankroller and important secret holder of the NPP.

In the past, Agyapong had threatened the NPP that he would reveal the real secrets behind the party’s 2016 electoral victories if he is pushed.

  • Government Pulls Down Buildings at American house- Adjiringanor Road

Government Pulls Down Buildings at American house- Adjiringanor Road

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has spearheaded the pulling down of structures on land reserved to develop an alternative road to ease the traffic congestion on the American-House-Adjiringanor road.

The Minister of the Sector, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Attah, who directed the exercise on Tuesday on a visit to inspect progress on the site, said his Ministry had given the owners of the properties five months notice to stop the construction, which was overlooked.

And people should take a cue from this when I indicated that these two houses will go down, I was not joking and that’s why I wanted to be here myself with my team to ensure that they go down. There is too much indiscipline in our nation, people don’t respect the laws of our country either because they think they are rich or something else.

If you are rich, nobody cares how you came by your riches and it is up to you, your household and your God. Nobody should attempt that because of his wealth, he can do whatever he or she likes in this country,” he said.

“People build anywhere and anyhow. Roads are very necessary to promote the growth of this country and the very good people of this country have the right to drive on good roads and to drive without any difficulties, but with convenience. So anybody who encroaches on the road corridor, the road reservation and I want to repeat, no matter how sophisticated it is, no matter who the person is, will not stand.”

Mr Amoako-Attah said although the exercise had caused inconvenience to the property owners, the compensation will not be paid to the property owners and sent a word of caution to other individuals, who wrongfully acquired building permit to build on waterways and land reserves to desist from the act.

“So I can tell you no compensation has been paid for the land and it will never be paid because those people trespassed onto the land. I have always directed that the wall that has trespassed into the reservation be pulled down. I understand it is the structure of a church. I also go to church and I’m a Presbyterian. If the church is not doing the right thing, it must be pulled down,” he added.

Breaking News; Trump Test Negative for COVID-19

US President Donald Trump has tested negative for the novel coronavirus on “consecutive days,” White House physician Sean Conley announced Monday.

“In response to your inquiry regarding the President’s most recent COVID-19 tests, I can share with you that he has tested NEGATIVE, on consecutive days, using the Abbott BinaxNOW antigen card,” said Conley in a statement.

The development came as Trump is set to hold a campaign rally Monday evening in Florida.

The statement concluded that the president “is not infectious to others.”

Trump, 74, confirmed on Oct. 3 that he and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive for the virus, hours after one of his closest aides, Hope Hicks, who travelled with him as recently as last Wednesday, tested positive for COVID-19.

He returned to the White House on Oct. 5 after receiving three days of treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

On Saturday, Conley said Trump was no longer considered a transmission risk and did not have to continue staying in quarantine after the president held his first public event at the White House since being diagnosed and hospitalized with the coronavirus.
